2025 Steelers Schedule Preview: Week 3 at the New England Patriots

It’s the official lull of the NFL offseason, and that means it provides enough time to go over things which you might not have time to dive into when the news and storylines are rampant. One of the things which is always something I want to do is an in-depth preview on the schedule. When the schedule gets released it involves a very knee jerk reaction from the fan base, but not a lot of introspection happens once the dust settles.

Well, if you’re like me, you’re in luck. This is the detailed breakdown of the Steelers 2025 regular season schedule, by week.

Week 3 vs. the New England Patriots

Date: Sunday, September 21st – 1:00pm EST

TV: CBS

Betting Line: Steelers (-1.5) / Total: 42.5 / Moneyline: Patriots -122 / Steelers +102

Last Meeting: 12/7/2023 – Patriots 21, Steelers 18

Overall Series Record: New England Patriots lead series 19-16-0

2024 Records:

Steelers: 10-7

Patriots: 4-13

Projected Starting QB Matchup: Aaron Rodgers vs. Drake Maye

Analysis: The narratives, and revenge situations, end in Week 3 with the Steelers going to Foxborough to play the Patriots. Most would assume this game would be an easy win for the Steelers, but the Patriots have made serious improvements within their organization from top-to-bottom.

It starts with the hiring of Mike Vrabel as the head coach, but also goes into free agency and the 2025 NFL Draft.

Major improvements have been made, but I still think there will be some growing pains for the Patriots, and the fact the Steelers will face them earlier in the season is a bonus for me when it comes to my prediction.

On paper the Steelers should be able to handle their business vs. the Patriots, even on the road. But Steelers fans know nothing is ever guaranteed. Nonetheless, I predict the Steelers keep up their winning ways, winning their second road game vs. the Patriots. Yes, I have them starting the season 3-0.

Prediction: Steelers 33, Patriots 17

As we continue our breakdowns of the Steelers 2025 schedule, you can see those past breakdowns below:

Week 1: at the New York Jets

Week 2: vs. the Seattle Seahawks

I agree with your win prediction here. However, I would be completely ecstatic and out of my mind if the Steelers scored 33 on the road in a resounding win as it would signify incredible transformation of the team and portend great things for the rest of the season. In the last 7 seasons and as the visiting team, the Steelers have only scored that many points a total of 3 times AND two of those were losses.

If the Steelers pull off a victory like that, even against what is likely to be a middling team, that would mean 1) Rodgers is playing great football, 2) Smith has opened up some passing/ he and Rodgers are clicking and 3) Tomlin is allowing them to do so.

Though I have my doubts, here’s hoping you’re spot on…if you are then coaches around the league might start to take notice because it already means the team ain’t the same ol’ Steelers.

Vinny, Jeff has Pgh scoring 27, 28, and 33, while conceding 17, 20, and 17. He’s nothing if not consistent. Even if Pgh began the season this well, a great season could not necessarily be foretold after Week 3. Heck, I’m dismayed the defense has given up so many points to two of iast season’s below-the-line teams and one mediocre one.

Matt, while I agree and I, too, will definitely struggle to get too excited about a winning Steelers team early on due to all the late season collapses we have witnessed- if the way in which they are winning is altogether different from past years (as Jeff seems to be leaning toward), I actually do think it will shake up my expectations a bit. It has been so long since the Steelers have played consistent, complete games that I do believe after 3 consecutive dominant performances- there’ll still be caveats and rightly so- but it simply would not ‘feel’ like previous seasons to most. (Because the team, itself, would not be playing like previous seasons by obtaining each and every victory in a slow, close, plodding manner.)

Vinny, it’s just guessing points for football games in complete darkness, what did that guy say, R-E-L-A-X?

Jeff’s scores may be for entertainment only.

Okey-dokey, seems reasonable to me. I’m more into odds-setting than points scored. Again, I had hoped the Steelers D would be better speculated as <18 points/game vs. these 3 teams. Ultimately, it’s entertaining on an 89°F day. Why do I feel so cold, must be the AC. Time for Sanka to warm up.

So far, Pgh favored by three or less points, two on road vs.AFC East, one at home vs. NFC West. Doubt Pgh will be favored for Week 4.

This is one where if the game were played later in the year I’d be a little more hesitant to give the Steelers a victory. Many, myself included, think NE can be a solid team this year. Hoping they haven’t put it all together by week 3, but nonetheless, still could be a very tough matchup. I think the Bears are another one where I’d rather play them early in the season when they may still be figuring things out with a new HC and young QB

Pats’ D will be tough, undoubtedly. Whole NFC North is good, potentially. Very disappointing that the management seems to want to give away away the Vikings’ game in advance, too.
