30 Scenarios in 30 Days: Cam Heyward will be named All-Pro in 2025
The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the 2025 regular season, but before the real games begin, the team has to head to training camp back at Saint Vincent College in order to fine tune their skills. As we here at SCN prepare you for the start of camp, we give you a series called “30 Scenarios in 30 Days” which gives you a Steelers scenario every day leading up to the start of camp.
It is simple how it works. We provide you the scenario, reasons why it will or won’t happen, and then our prediction for what we think will take place.
Let’s get to the scenario…
Scenario: Cam Heyward will be named All-Pro in 2025
Why it will happen: I am at the point in my life where I’ve stopped questioning certain things. One of the things I’ve stopped questioning is whether or not Cam Heyward can still play the game at a high level. 2024 proved 2023 was an injury-plagued season which took its toll on Heyward’s overall production.
2024 also proved just how Heyward can continue to be productive to the point of being an All-Pro. Mind you, I’m not talking about Pro Bowls, which is more of a popularity contest, but being an All-Pro. In his career Heyward has been an All-Pro, 1st or 2nd team, five times. Four times he’s been named 1st team, and once been named to the 2nd team. High marks for the veteran defensive lineman, but still a tough ladder to climb.
Outside of his history and health, I think the additions of Derrick Harmon, 1st Round pick, Yahya Black, 5th Round pick, and a hopeful ascension in playing productivity for Keeanu Benton should help Heyward stay productive. He shouldn’t have to play as many snaps as he was asked to do in 2024, and that will only equate in him playing less, which should equate to more quality repetitions when he’s called onto the field.
And let’s be honest, Heyward’s old-man strength can still play well even after all these years…
Why it won’t happen: Father time catches up to everyone, and will someday with Heyward too. There is a long list of defensive linemen who have played well into their mid-30s, but the list of those who achieved such high acclaim as an All-Pro nod is small. Heyward did such a feat in 2024, but doing again this season will be a challenge.
The biggest question is health, but not just Heyward’s health, that’s obvious. I’m also talking about the ability for the rest of the defensive line to remain healthy so Heyward isn’t called onto duty more than necessary. If players like Benton and/or Harmon suffer injuries which hinder their playing time, it could call Heyward onto the field too much and hinder his production.
Either way, an All-Pro nod is a challenge at his age.
Prediction: As much as I’d love to see Heyward receive All-Pro status in 2025, I know the odds are not in his favor. Will he play at a high level in 2025? Absolutely, but playing well enough to be an All-Pro is another level I’m not sure even Heyward can achieve. Sadly, I’ll say Heyward misses out on All-Pro this season, but does get a Pro Bowl nod.
