30 Scenarios in 30 Days: Pat Freiermuth will lead the Steelers in touchdowns in 2025
The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the 2025 regular season, but before the real games begin, the team has to head to training camp back at Saint Vincent College in order to fine tune their skills. As we here at SCN prepare you for the start of camp, we give you a series called “30 Scenarios in 30 Days” which gives you a Steelers scenario every day leading up to the start of camp.
It is simple how it works. We provide you the scenario, reasons why it will or won’t happen, and then our prediction for what we think will take place.
Let’s get to the scenario…
Scenario: Pat Freiermuth will lead the Steelers in touchdowns in 2025
Why it will happen: The Steelers have a wide variety of weapons who can add points to the scoreboard in 2025, and when you are looking at the likes of DK Metcalf, Pat Freiermuth, Roman Wilson, Calvin Austin III, Jaylen Warren, Kaleb Johnson, and others you can see how spreading the ball around will make leading the team less than many might believe.
In other words, if someone were to reach double-digits, it could absolutely have them leading the team in touchdowns for the season.
Last year Freiermuth led the team in touchdowns with seven, one more than Najee Harris’s six, and the hope is in 2025 it will require more than those numbers to lead the team in touchdowns. With that said, Freiermuth could very well be the recipient of better quarterback play, other viable weapons on the field, and finally coming into his own with an offensive coordinator.
With Jonnu Smith, Metcalf and even Darnell Washington getting attention in the red-zone, it could be Freiermuth who leads the way in scoring plays.
Why it won’t happen: As mentioned before, there are a lot of options for the Steelers in the passing game, and there is a strong chance Aaron Rodgers finds a favorite weapon when the field gets short and scoring is at a premium.
If that happens, and it isn’t Freiermuth who is the recipient of those targets, it could easily be someone else who leads the team in touchdowns. As you see below on the list of previous scenarios, Dave Schofield even did one where DK Metcalf has double-digit touchdowns. In that case I don’t foresee Freiermuth being the leader on the team in touchdowns.
A lot will have to do with chemistry with Rodgers, and that can go in any direction.
Prediction: When I think about Freiermuth leading the team in touchdowns for the second straight season, I just don’t see it. Maybe it is me being hopeful Aaron Rodgers will always find the open man, regardless of who that may be. Either way, I think someone like Metcalf, or even a running back, will lead the team in touchdowns in 2025.
