4 players mentioned by Mike Tomlin following Monday’s practice

The Pittsburgh Steelers were on the practice field at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex in Pittsburgh for practice on Monday. Following practice, head coach Mike Tomlin briefly addressed the media about their day on the field. Since he was asked about a number of players, I am excited to continue the players mentioned article at Steel Curtain Network for another week beyond training camp! Remember these are players where a specific question was asked during the Q&A.

Will Howard

Coach Tomlin was asked about any update on Will Howard and how he’s wearing the brace a little bit less.

“Yeah, he’s had some positive reviews. Meeting with the hand specialists. We’ve increased his level of activity. We’ve altered the brace that you mentioned, so he’s moving in the right direction in terms of full participation very soon.”

Brandin Echols

Coach Tomlin was asked if Brandin Echols is one of the coverage people he talks about and how Echols can fit into that.

“I think he’s had a great camp and preseason. He’s been highly competitive. He’s played top down; he’s kept the ball in front of him. He certainly is an asset to us. We’ll get more details in terms of how we’re dividing the labor up as we get closer to game week.”

Alex Highsmith

Coach Tomlin was asked how Alex Highsmith is progressing and where he stands in his return.

“I like his level of competition and participation. I think he was almost a full participant today and so it was moving in the right direction.”

Nick Herbig

Coach Tomlin was asked if he anticipates Nick Herbig being available for Week 1?

“I don’t know yet. We’ll know as we get closer to it.”
