6 players mentioned by Mike Tomlin following Thursday’s training camp practice
The Pittsburgh Steelers took to the practice field at St. Vincent College for training camp on Thursday. Following practice, head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media about their day on the field. Since he was asked about a number of players, I am excited to bring back the players mentioned article to Steel Curtain Network for the 2025 season! Remember these are players where a specific question was asked during the Q&A period with the exception of an injury update.
Isaac Seumalo, Jacob Slade, & Dean Lowry
Coach Tomlin gave an injury update on Isaac Seumalo, Jacob Slade, and Dean Lowry.
“We have some guys working their way back to us, increasing their participation. Isaac Seumalo, for example, was taken off the list and began the process of working, so all things pointed in the right direction in that regard. Some other injuries to report on. Jacob Slade, he had a knee injury yesterday that’s being evaluated. Dean Lowry, he had a knee injury yesterday that’s being evaluated. I have more information on some of those guys and others a little bit later. The rest of the stuff is just things to manage that come along with this process.”
Jonnu Smith
Coach Tomlin was asked about how he reacts to the chippiness with Jonnu Smith and some of the defensive backs and if that is something with the pads off that maybe he would like to see.
“You know, I just prefer to keep some of that stuff in house. I’d much rather say whoathan sick em. This is a football team we’re putting together, but it’s also an opportunity to learn how to compete and compete the right way and be professional. Largely how I handle those circumstances is our business.”
Roman Wilson
Coach Tomlin was asked how he has seen Roman Wilson respond to playing outside, inside, just through seven practices.
“He’s shown really good adaptability and position flex. We are still very much early in the process, but I like some of the things I’ve seen for him.”
Aaron Rodgers
Coach Tomlin was asked how Aaron Rodgers talked about mastering this offense and wanting to get it down by the end of the week and how he assesses Rodgers progress in that.
“You know, I agree with his sentiment regarding his progress. I like it, but certainly we still push him forward toward comfort every day. You have to remember the guy got here in the spring, and so this is a big process for him. He’s doing a really good job of communicating and dialoguing with his eligibles, the people that he works with, but we’ll just keep punching that clock every day.”

See, Ed and I might think two-a-days could help with AARod’s acclimation to the Smith offense. Those days are long gone, though.
Kyle Allen looked pretty uneven last night, but outperformed Hendon Hooker.
