6 players mentioned by Mike Tomlin following Tuesday’s training camp practice
The Pittsburgh Steelers were back on the practice field at St. Vincent College for their final practice of training camp on Tuesday. Following practice, head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media about their day on the field. Since he was asked about a number of players, I am excited to continue the players mentioned article at Steel Curtain Network for the 2025 season! Remember these are players where a specific question was asked during the Q&A.
Aaron Rodgers
Coach Tomlin was asked if he saw what happened to Aaron Rodgers.
“He just got stepped on. It was nothing of any significance. He finished his work.”
Coach Tomlin was asked if it was something with Rodgers’ shin or if he got stepped on.
“Like I said, he just got stepped on. It was nothing of any significance. He finished his work. He didn’t miss a rep.”
Coach Tomlin was asked a question where the name wasn’t audible but I believe it was Aaron Rodgers. The question was, now that Coach Tomlin got to work him for camp, what has he learned about him.
“He loves football. I think, is the thing that’s on the tip of my tongue. He displays it daily. He has a love affair with this game, one that he’s willing to share with others. He’s passionate about it, and I think it’s contagious.”
Jalen Ramsey
Coach Tomlin was asked, even in these settings, what he has seen from the impact Jalen Ramsey has made on the defense.
“His versatility, our ability to do a variety of things because of his versatility. His ability to man a variety of type of athletes, his multi positional approach to ball. He can play free safety and play nickel. He can play outside and corner. He’s just a very, very useful chess piece.”
Broderick Jones & Troy Fautanu
Coach Tomlin was asked how much progress he has seen from the young tackles during this camp and what led them to develop.
“Man, I think they’ve gotten better every day. Broderick got slowed by a little day to day injury there for a spell, but he’s really been on the uptick since his return. Same with Troy . I like the trajectory of the group. As I mentioned, even though we’re leaving here, we still are very much in development. We have a lot of time in front of us between now and the opener.”
Will Howard
Coach Tomlin was asked, even though Will Howard is hurt, what he needs to do to stay ready.
“He’s a sharp guy so he can learn from watching others, it’s important. He has remained engaged in terms of the calls and things of that nature. He’s starting to get back to some conditioning things and some footwork. So there’s certainly opportunities to get better continually for him.”
Derrick Harmon
Coach Tomlin was asked about putting Derrick Harmon into the ones a lot and what he saw of Harmon’s growth being able to get as many reps as he did.
“He’s heavy handed, he’s competitive, he’s exactly what we thought he was. Certainly he’s still very much a work in progress, getting acclimated, not only to the professional game, but specifically the things that we’re asking to do within our scheme.”
