7 players mentioned by Mike Tomlin following Saturday’s training camp practice

The Pittsburgh Steelers took to the practice field at St. Vincent College for training camp on Saturday. Following practice, head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media about their day on the field. Since he was asked about a number of players, I am excited to bring back the players mentioned article to Steel Curtain Network for the 2025 season! Remember these are players where a specific question was asked during the Q&A period.

Kenneth Gainwell

Coach Tomlin was asked what kind of versatility Kenneth Gainwell brings to the backfield.

“He’s good, he’s good inside the backfield, he’s good out of the backfield. He’s a good route runner, he’s good outside zone runner. He’s got a well-rounded game, and that’s one of the reasons why we’re excited about acquiring them.”

Scotty Miller & James Pierre

Coach Tomlin was asked, after they made some plays last night and again today, how Scotty Miller and James Pierre fit, not only on special teams, but as they’ve been called upon on offensive and defense.

“I think that’s kind of reflective of who they are. You know, football players, whatever we ask you to do, the more you can do you add value to your cause and ours. And so, I’m excited about those contributions.”

Troy Fautanu & Spencer Anderson

Coach Tomlin was asked if he has given any thought to looking at Troy Fautanu on the left side at all or if he wants to keep him in one place. In his response, Coach Tomlin also mentioned Spencer Anderson.

“No, he doesn’t have enough experience to do that. If you watch today, we gave Spencer Anderson some work out there. He’s more experienced and versatile, and soothers will be called upon, probably before Troy will.”

Keeanu Benton & Calvin Austin III

Coach Tomlin was asked if Keeanu Benton and Calvin Austin III were just resting or banged up.

“You can characterize them as day to day. You should see those guys out here pretty soon.”

Tomlin may have a future on CBS Sports, when Cowher moves on.

Definitely CBS, not NBC or the World Wide Leader, Disney ESPN.
