7 players mentioned by Mike Tomlin following Tuesday’s training camp practice

The Pittsburgh Steelers took to the practice field at St. Vincent College for training camp on Tuesday. Following practice, head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media about their day on the field. Since he was asked about a couple of players, I am excited to bring back the players mentioned article to Steel Curtain Network for the 2025 season! Remember these are players where a specific question was asked during the Q&A period with the exception of an injury update.

Will Howard & Jonnu Smith

Coach Tomlin gave an injury update on Will Howard and Jonnu Smith.

“I guess the big news is Will Howard left with a hand injury that’s being evaluated. Jonnu left with some knee soreness, will evaluate him as well. That appears to be less significant, but we examined Will Howard. We’ll see where it takes us.”

Coach Tomlin was asked how Will Howard got hurt.

“I think it was a C-Q exchange, but I didn’t have direct eyes on it so I’m speculating.”

Coach Tomlin was asked if it was Howard’s throwing hand.

“Yes it is.”

Robert Woods

Coach Tomlin was asked if Robert Woods was of the opinion he scored at the end of the two-minute drill.

“I’m sure he was.”

Alex Highsmith

Coach Tomlin was asked if there was an update on Alex Highsmith.

“He’s got a groin injury but I don’t know the length of time. It’ll be a couple of days, at least, for sure, we’ll play it by ear.”

Aaron Rodgers

Coach Tomlin was asked what he has seen from Aaron Rodgers.

“You know, he’s in complete command. I’ve seen some things that I’ve seen from the opposing sideline over the years, in terms of his ability to take advantage of substitution changes and so forth. He’s been doing it at a high level for a long time, and so not surprised by any of that.”

Brandin Echols

Coach Tomlin was asked if Brandin Echols got there a little early on his interception.

“We’ll take a look at the tape.”

Jack Sawyer

Coach Tomlin was asked to talk about the progress of Jack Sawyer so far.

“He’s done a nice job. He’s highly competitive. I’m equally as impressed with what he’s doing in special teams, because
essentially he played D-End at college. He’s playing on his feet and playing in some space and doing a nice job.”

If I had to rank guys i was most excited to see in preseason, Will Howard would’ve been number 1 I think, simply because that’s most likely all we’d see from him this year. That’s a bummer
