8 players mentioned by Mike Tomlin following Wednesday’s training camp practice
The Pittsburgh Steelers took to the practice field at St. Vincent College for training camp on Wednesday. Following practice, head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media about their day on the field. Since he was asked about a number of players, I am excited to bring back the players mentioned article to Steel Curtain Network for the 2025 season! Remember these are players where a specific question was asked during the Q&A period with the exception of an injury update.
Will Howard
Coach Tomlin gave an update on Will Howard’s injury.
“Regarding Will’s hand injury, he’s got a broken finger. It can be characterized as week to week. He’s looking at his options. I’ll have more information when it’s definitive, but he’s certainly out this week. It appears to be non-surgical, and so we’ll see where the roads lead us.”
Derrick Harmon
Coach Tomlin was asked if Derrick Harmon is part of the guys with bumps and bruises right now.
“Yes.”
Coach Tomlin was asked what Derrick Harmon is dealing with right now.
“You know, just minor things associated with the rigors of training camp.”
Calvin Austin III
Coach Tomlin was asked if he had an update on Calvin Austin III.
“I don’t. He’ll be perking back up here soon I would imagine.”
Skylar Thompson
Coach Tomlin was asked if he has seen Skylar Thompson take advantage of recent opportunities here.
“You know, he did a good job today. I don’t know that I’ve really paid attention to the additional opportunity component of it until today, and I thought he did a nice job.”
Roman Wilson & Troy Fautanu
Coach Tomlin was asked, now that Roman Wilson and Troy Fautanu are back healthy and participating, how has he seen them in their second season.
“I think they’re both having really good camps. We need them too. They don’t need to behave like rookies, although they didn’t have a lot of exposure in terms of playing time a year ago. They have been a part of the program, and I think that that should show itself. So far it has. They’re both making plays and doing a nice job of it.”
Yahya Black
Coach Tomlin was asked what he has seen from Yahya Black so far from him in camp.
“He’s a high energy, big for an enormous man. He hustles, he finishes, and I think that’s a good place to begin from a skill development standpoint. Obviously, it’s a work in progress, but there’s a lot to like.”
Aaron Rodgers
Coach Tomlin was asked about how Aaron Rodgers feels the last three or four practices the offense really has started to make some progress, and what he thinks about the offense.
“That’s what it looks like. I know he’s throwing the heck out of it and it appears that he’s getting really comfortable within the schematics. So I’d say that’s a solid assessment.”
Coach Tomlin was asked where Rogers is in comparison to where he expected him to be.
“I don’t know that I had any expectations. I try not to make any assumptions in team development, whether it’s individual or collective.”

Probably more forthcoming than Noll would be–couldn’t help myself there… trying to be W.C. Fields. And flailing.
