Drew Allar Emerging As Top Target After Week 1
After the first week of College Football, Drew Allar impressed the most out of all NFL Quarterback draft prospects. Could he be the answer the Steelers are looking for next season?
Let’s breakdown his performance against Nevada.
Drew Allar looked like one of the top prospects in all of college football for the 2026 NFL draft after week 1 against the University of Nevada. What is different you might ask? Well for starters he actually has wide receivers that not only can create space and get open, but also can catch the ball. Last season, Penn State’s most dangerous target was TE, Tyler Warren. Warren was a great player, but only having one reliable target to throw the ball too really limited Drew Allar as a quarterback. With the additions from the transfer portal of WR, Trebor Pena and WR, Kyron Hudson, we can now see this offense open with Drew Allar under center. Hudson finished the game with 6 catches for 89 yards and a touchdown while Pena had 7 catches for 74 yards.
My offensive co-MVPs: WR Kyron Hudson and WR Trebor Peña.
In their Penn State’s debuts:
Hudson: 6 catches for 89 yards and 1 touchdown
Peña: 7 catches 74 yards

Having Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton back for another year will also help out Drew Allar and the offense. Allen had 8 carries for 43 yards and a touchdown while Singleton had 8 carries for 19 yards and 2 touchdowns. With those two in the backfield, defenses will need to always worry about Penn State’s rushing threat. That should open up the field for Allar this year and we will see the true talent this kid possesses. Allar finished the game going 22/26 with 217 yards and 1 passing touchdown. The results aren’t flashy, but he was very efficient and brought his team down the field at will. He made some incredible throws that makes you wonder what he could do in a Steelers uniform next season. Yes, it was against Nevada, but it was the first game of the season with a new receiving core. It should only get better for them the more they play and with tougher competition down the road, we will get to see what Drew Allar can do with a viable offense.
It does not matter how well Aaron Rodgers plays this season and how well the Pittsburgh Steelers do in 2025, they need to draft a quarterback next year. The 2026 draft class is loaded with quarterbacks and the Steelers have the draft capital to move up if they need to. Drew Allar is a guy that should be on their radar all season and right now he looks like he could be the best quarterback when all is said and done.
a true Pittsburgh Steelers fan, since the 70’s I haven’t gotten a chance to see Drew Allar yet I hope to see most of these quarterbacks coming out the 2026 N.F.L. draft
I’m hoping the Lions win it all, but it leaves me conflicted about how that works out regarding the Steelers.
On one hand, if the Nits win it all, it’s probably because Allar lives up to the Heisman hype, and that means a special season.
OTOH, that type of season may put him out of reach come next April when we are all standing in Downtown Pittsburgh awaiting the announcement.
Simply put, whatever we want to do at QB next April has to be tempered with the expectations that the CLE Browns are in the same QB situation, will do worse than the Steelers this season (ergo, a better Draft position), AND, have more ammo (higher value picks to deal) come the Draft.
CLE is simply in the drivers seat, with the Steelers waiting for them to make a Big Ben sized mistake again.
Drafting three QBs in just two years would be such a Cleveland thing to do 😂
I fully expect them to do just that
And also, the Rams. Need to replace Stat Padford.
Allar did look shaky at times last year, so I’m curious to see if he’s become a bit more consistent. He’s actually been at the top of my list for a little while now, but I can only cross my fingers.
Have you seen LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina)? He’s a sophomore but the guy has the capabilities to be a monster NFL QB.
I like that kid a lot. Athleticly gifted and smart.
Not that Allar isn’t a solid prospect; he was on my list, but Sellers looks like one of those rare talents that come along only rarely.
I like Allar, so this is not a knock. But let’s remember that this was one week’s performance against an opponent you’d expect PSU to dominate.
All of the other top QB prospects outside of Sellers were facing ranked teams.
The Pitt fan in me won’t allow me to wish for Drew Allar to ever play for the Steelers. Like Pat Frieirmuth and others, though, if it happens I will root for him. That said, the Steelers almost certainly won’t have a bad enough year to draft a top flight QB unless a monster trade occurs. Their plethora of 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks won’t do it. Even so, they still probably won’t be able to land the best 2 or 3 QBs in the draft.
The good news is there’s a crop of around 4-5 QBs that are getting a lot of attention, so we may not have to move into a top 10 spot to get one of them.
No, top two are already accounted for, by Browns (likely) and Rams. Wasn’t the last good PSU QB Milt Plum?
Hey now, don’t disrespect Kerry Collins! (/end sarcasm)
Ugh…
I’m on the Klubnik train. Fits the system and high character/elite leader. Probably not the best qb on the board, but he’s a favorite of mine
Okay since this is how things are going to go fine then, should the Steelers Draft a QB in RD 1 then both MR and Howard need to be traded in the offseason and every single rep is to be given to this 1st Rd QB. Give that QB the job from Day 1 and do not pull him no matter what the outcome of the game is, How’s that for ya Fans? Am I on the right track?
