Free Agent WR Gabe Davis scheduled to visit with the Steelers
It is no secret the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for help at the wide receiver position, and this is the second straight offseason where the team could make such a statement. As you can imagine, they are scouring the potential free agent additions in hopes of a player who could come in and help bolster the position.
After reports of the team potentially trading for pass catching targets like Chris Olave of the New Orleans Saints and Jonnu Smith of the Miami Dolphins, the Steelers are reportedly hosting free agent wide receiver Gabe Davis this week.
This per ESPN’s Adam Schefter:
Sources: Former Bills and Jaguars WR Gabe Davis is scheduled to travel to Pittsburgh on Wednesday to visit with the Steelers on Thursday.

Davis, who had his most productive seasons with the Buffalo Bills, spent last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and with mixed results. Davis only played in 10 games last season and caught 20 passes for 239 yards with a pair of touchdowns before suffering a torn meniscus and missing the rest of the year.
The Jags released Davis last month.
The biggest question surrounding Davis at this time is his health. As stated earlier, Davis missed the waning weeks of the season with a knee injury, and some in league circles believe the injury was significant enough that Davis won’t be ready to play anytime soon in 2025.
Davis’ best season came in 2022, when he caught 48 passes for 836 yards with seven touchdowns. That was after his blistering performance in the 2021 postseason against Kansas City, catching eight passes for 201 yards with four touchdowns in the club’s eventual 42-36 overtime loss.
In 74 career games, Davis has 183 receptions for 2,969 yards with 29 TDs.

I could get very excited about this. Davis is a big WR (I know he purportedly has drop issues) that, if healthy, could be exactly what the doctor ordered for this team. Here’s to hoping and praying he is healthy!
Butterfingers are real except when Davis plays Pgh, unfortunately. Jonnu must be a no-go, too.
I am with you. Assuming the money isn’t crazy, there isn’t much risk here.
Pass. Never really liked his game. Not a great catcher of the football.
49ers and Giants agree w/JSegursky all day, will Pgh?
Somebody has to fill out the roster though, no? The Steelers aren’t getting a Randy Moss at this point.
Too old, pass. Sorry for teasing…
He’s 26. Old?
Silly SY, Randy Moss is 48 years, 110 days old. Bad MattCat joke. Davis’ hands, injury, and 26 years, 63 days aren’t jokes.
A totally ditz blonde moment for SY is the ACTUAL culprit here Matt! LOLOL
Was unclear on my part.
Another unfunny thing is Pgh’s Alumni Weekend will contain 02 Nov, the Colts’ game. Cool!
I am firmly in the, “Hey, why not” camp. The Steelers very much need another receiver. Is Gabe Davis going to come here and be great? Probably not. That wouldn’t be the goal, though. The goal would simply be to be better than Robert Woods and, maybe, serve as a nice buffer with regard to Roman Wilson’s development or non-development. Davis is still only 26 years old. Besides, it’s not like there are a ton of better free agents available at this point.
I’m listening, Jon. Along with the dropsies, Davis is recovering from a meniscus tear, thus caveat emptor. And I honestly agree with everything else you write. My preferred options to add as WR2 would require a trade, Pgh may not be down for that.
I would prefer to see Keenan Allen in black and gold than Gabe Davis.
Also as far as signing free agents now counting against compensatory picks for 2026, I think after the NFL draft those signings no longer count against the compensatory picks, although, I think teams can place an unrestricted free agent tender on a player, which then would affect the compensatory pick–as the Chargers recently did with JK Dobbins.
Yes, as does Coach Smith. And yes to the rest.
Saw that Jim Marshall passed away, only Alan Page remains, like Joe Greene. Last remnants of eras.
And now reports that Smith is back in the mix. Omar walkin’
I’m getting dizzy. Must be that ESPN guy, Schefter. Parham tore his Achilles today, so Jonnu makes sense. Awful for Parham.

Too many losses to teams they should have beaten. Olsavsky was a good coach. ’93 was the year Duquesne installed Rooney Field by Mellon Hall, good place to throw frisbees. Lloyd looks a bit like a sociopath–good player. Montana.
Great trip down memory lane. Thanks for sharing.
