My Worthless 2 Cents After the Steelers 2025 Preseason

The title “My Worthless 2 Cents” that I came up with isn’t one I feel I can take full credit for, but is a story in itself, so here it is. I was in the 8th grade at the time, and found myself tagging along with my older sister (a senior in high school), as she was a part of the high school theatre group who would work as ushers for local community theatre productions. Working as an usher at a production of “Harvey”, the dad for one of my baseball friends came up to me at intermission and handed me two pennies and asked me to go back to the dressing area and find the lead actor in the play. I was to give him the pennies and tell him “this is from the guy with the big nostrils, giving you his two cents worth”. I thought this was funny so I agreed to do it, especially since I knew the two were friends. I go to the dressing room and deliver the message and the “gift”. The response I was given was even better. The actor told me to return the pennies and I was to “tell the guy with the big nostrils to take his worthless 2 cents and shove them right up his big nostrils”. So that’s it. This is my 2 cents after sitting on the latest Steelers game for a bit, or various points of the offseason. This is quite the opposite of my Knee Jerk Reaction article, so I get to bring everything full circle. You might tell me to take my worthless two cents and shove them up my nostrils, and that’s okay, because we are friends and I don’t look at it as personal.

I am going to break things down into three categories: One, something I feel stronger about. Two, something I have softened on a bit. Three, something that didn’t really change.

SOMETHING I FEEL STRONGER ABOUT

The Steelers Defense could be really good. The defense is usually good, but this year I feel like there were some upgrades made, as well as adding good depth. If the defense can stay “mostly healthy” it could be a unit to be reckoned with. The depth on the defensive line and the line backer positions is the best the Steelers have had in years. With the upgrades at corner and still being OK at safety I am excited to see what this group can do.

SOMETHING I’VE SOFTENED ON

Playing/not playing top players in the preseason. It used to bother me when players didn’t see the field in the preseason. I no longer feel that way. Playing in the preseason could help knock off the rust, but it also puts players at risk for getting injured. I feel most coaches (in particular Coach Tomlin) can’t win over fans for whichever decision they make. Some fans argue that players should play to get into game shape, but if someone plays and gets injured you have fans screaming about players getting hurt in a meaningless game. Personally I now trust the coaching staff to make what they feel is the appropriate decision for each player.

SOMETHING THAT HASN’T CHANGED

My love of NFL football and in particular the Pittsburgh Steelers. I can say that I have really missed seeing regular season Steelers games, but it is worth it. I love the entire offseason process. I always have different milestones to look forward to that get me that much close to regular season Steelers football. The same way players and coaches have things to do in the offseason, I have things that I am keeping tabs on and doing to keep my excitement up. Now I get to take all that enthusiasm and excitement and take it into the regular season. HERE WE GO!!!!

There you have it. My worthless 2 cents. Maybe you liked it, maybe you didn’t. Maybe you want to tell me to shove my worthless two cents up my big nostrils. Maybe you have your own worthless 2 cents you would like to share. If so please feel free to share it in the comments below, I might look at it and tell you to shove it up your big nostrils…but that’s okay, because we are still friends.

Adding a penny to your two cents:

Similar hopes for the defense. What I’m really hoping to see on both sides of the ball is a coaching staff that has enough confidence in these players being able to execute that they’ll be more creative and aggressive with game planning and play calling, especially in big games and key situations. The Steelers have been far too easy for quality opponents to play against for far too long.

I don’t care much about starters playing in preseason. What would it have proven to see Aaron Rodgers play a quarter and throw five short passes vs. a defense that hadn’t game planned for the Steelers? The important thing is to have the team ready to play. I will say that we’ve seen enough games where the Steelers have come out looking flat and under prepared that I wouldn’t take their readiness for granted. Here’s hoping, but “we’ll let performance in stadium be our guide.”

Yeah, the off-season is interesting but now it’s time to get excited. Looking forward to Sunday and hope the Steelers come out firing on all cylinders. Here We Go.

1st paragraph, yeah, I want that, too. About three seasons too long for creative and aggressive defensive play calling. Playing to win and not not to lose.

3rd paragraph, yeah, me too.

Totally agree on the coaching thoughts. Been looking to exploit matchups for years, and it could be more prominent with this team. If it doesn’t happen and the Steelers are not having success you will plenty of rants in this article moving forward.
