Steelers Burning Question: How would you rate the preseason?

Last season I did the Friday Night Steelers Six Pack and wondered if it was worth doing further. After all, interaction was not great, and sometimes you just have to adjust. So I decided to call an audible, and not just abandon the Friday night meeting of the black-and-gold minds.

Instead of six questions, I wanted to focus solely on one question.

We’ll still do the preamble of what you’re eating/drinking/listening to, but we’ll focus our attention on the one Steelers question of the week. Don’t worry, most weeks I’ll do a bonus/extra credit question for fun. With all that out of the way, let’s get to the question!

When you are trying to somehow evaluate this 3-game preseason it is difficult to evaluate. The starters barely played, or didn’t at all, but we got a good look at the depth on this roster. To say I wasn’t overly impressed with the depth at certain positions is an understatement. However, with limited injuries I can’t say the preseason was a wash, but I wouldn’t say it was necessarily a success either.

What say you?

As for what I’m eating, it’s a mixture of leftovers and some “snacky” foods. As for drink, it’s going to be store bought kombucha and the the music will be some Jimmy Buffett.

Happy Friday everyone!!

Well, goulash was a fail as far as the younger members of the family were concerned last week (I enjoyed it). We’re graduating to grilled citrus rosemary chicken with radiatori pasta all’ollo, to be paired with pinot noir (which seems odd to me). Plain old sliced cantaloupe will serve as dessert. Once again, a family film has not yet been decided upon at time of writing.

I’ve read that the anticipated starters have received adequate preparation for the the regular season in practice, so that portion of the preseason won’t be evaluated until the regular season begins… so I defer judging that. The remainder of the roster has been churned, and there will be some good players added to the practice squad, which is good. The reserve OL is, perhaps, not as strong as hoped, though strengthening that will be challenging. The team seems to have mostly avoided severe injuries to anticipated starters during the preseason, which is good. It still might be nice to add another bigger WR to the roster, and that will be challenging.

Seems that evaluating this preseason is kind of like power rankings, only one power ranking counts, and those are determined by playing out the regular season games. Hopefully the game play beginning 07 Sep at 1305 hours EDT will be sharper than in the last two preseason games.

Seems Harmon is expected to be out 4-6 weeks with his sprained MCL, per Dulac, but he may not be places on IR.

Sitting with my best buddy, and drinking Flying Dog Truth juiced up IPA.

Eating an eggsalad sandwich I whipped up with a side of steamed cauliflower that I put some cocktail sauce on. Not bad, but not as good as wing sauce.

Listening to an alt rock station on shuffle, already heard Glass Animals, Alabama Shakes, Black Keys, and Harry Styles so far. Really good stuff.

How would I rate the preseason? Oooohh, that’s a good question. Uhm, I guess if I’m being honest they look a little better than I expected. Not enough better that I feel like I need to recalibrate my expectation for the season, but better, sure. The Rookie class looks to have some players, and Roman Wilson looks like he might just be worth the wait. I’m looking forward to game one.

Pizza, a few local beers and bourbon. Watching a variety of sports.

I think health is the most important part of preseason. So that’s a B+ I guess? Jones looks better to my untrained eyes. I think the defense could be very good.

All in all, I’m excited for the season though I think this team has the widest delta of how the season could end up in recent memory. Maybe since ’02?

Have a great weekend everyone.

Drinking “Mounds of Importance” Stout from Third Eye Brewing Co.

Was great to see the OLine look good in pass protection. The penalties were outrageous in the Carolina game so that needs cleaned up ASAP. Overall, a couple of young players really passed the eye test: Yahya Black and Roman Wilson. I’m excited for these two to make a statement this year.

Speaking of…is Yahya Black the Keisel Award favorite at this point?
