Steelers Burning Question: What’s your go-to tailgate grub?
Last season I did the Friday Night Steelers Six Pack and wondered if it was worth doing further. After all, interaction was not great, and sometimes you just have to adjust. So I decided to call an audible, and not just abandon the Friday night meeting of the black-and-gold minds.
Instead of six questions, I wanted to focus solely on one question.
We’ll still do the preamble of what you’re eating/drinking/listening to, but we’ll focus our attention on the one Steelers question of the week. Don’t worry, most weeks I’ll do a bonus/extra credit question for fun. With all that out of the way, let’s get to the question!
In honor of Labor Day weekend, which is a huge grilling weekend of the year, what is your go-to tailgate dish/grub to bring?
Do you bring a pre-made dish? Do you provide some beverages with a unique spin? Or do you make the dish based on who the Steelers play that particular week?
We don’t need complete recipes, but I’d love to get some ideas for game day food this season, and felt this would be a great time to dive into the topic!

Happy Labor Day weekend everyone!!
Chili-stuffed cornbread. A good starter recipe lies withing the Delish website, my wife’s recipe differs from theirs.
Chili stuffed cornbread?!
That sounds AMAZING!!
Have a link to the recipe?
See if this works, otherwise it is found on the Delish site–not my wife’s, again:

The premise behind this Labor Day Weekend Burning Question was I once put together a recipe book of recipes for Steelers parties/tailgates which all had funny names.
Names like:
Cleveland Sucks Sausage Balls
Baltimore Has Crabs Soup
Cincinnati Chili Sucks, This Is Better
You get the picture. I lost the file years ago, but was considering reviving it and putting it together in an e-book style. Might just be a giant waste of time lol
I really DON’T like Skyline chili, but someone here has an appreciation for it.
Pretty basic with buffalo chicken dip or buffalo wings and pigs in a blanket. That’s mainly for the Super Bowl though. Had this hot corn dip that was really good this summer and need to start making that. This is all at home. Not much of a tailgater. I should get a smoker. My brother in law got one and I love it. I’d love to do some ribs, burnt ends, pulled pork for game days. Kinda tough with church in the mornings, but maybe I can find a way to do it still. Food and football go hand in hand. I just bought Ben Roethlisberger’s cook book from his podcast, so I’ll be doing some recipes from there, but I think a cookbook from here would be fun too. I need the Schofield pepperoni rolls recipe!
If you are going to get a smoker, do it the right way. The old school way. Not with an app on your phone that feeds pellets into the smoker.
You have to nurse that stuff, and then when you taste it…it is magical!
Don’t go to games anymore so my tailgate grub is usually something out of crockpot or smoker.
Crockpot foods are sausage and meatballs in tomato sauce, spare ribs with kraut and onions, italian beef sandwiches.
Smoker foods include ribs, sausages, wings or pulled pork
