Steelers Burning Question: When is it time to be concerned?
Last season I did the Friday Night Steelers Six Pack and wondered if it was worth doing further. After all, interaction was not great, and sometimes you just have to adjust. So I decided to call an audible, and not just abandon the Friday night meeting of the black-and-gold minds.
Instead of six questions, I wanted to focus solely on one question.
We’ll still do the preamble of what you’re eating/drinking/listening to, but we’ll focus our attention on the one Steelers question of the week. Don’t worry, most weeks I’ll do a bonus/extra credit question for fun. With all that out of the way, let’s get to the question!
On Day 1 of training camp there was a not-so-pretty repetition of Broderick Jones and Spencer Anderson circulating social media, you can see it below:
I’ve watched this play at least 20 times and still can’t figure out what Broderick Jones is doing. Clearly was looking for Highsmith to press up the arc. A pretty bad rep. pic.twitter.com/i9DAPoBuKq

Of course there are people who overreacted to the poor play and felt as if it was a sign of things to come, but for me it was Day 1. That doesn’t mean there isn’t concern on the horizon, and made me wonder at what point do you get concerned with a player’s development, not just Broderick Jones.
Is it in the preseason? Regular season?
What say you?
As for what I’m eating, it’s a leftovers night with Happy Gilmore 2 on the television. As for drink, it’s going to be store bought kombucha and the the music will be whatever is on Spotify before the movie.
Happy Friday everyone!!
I think it’s time to be concerned when there is a pattern of bad play. Sadly that’s what jones showed last season, but we can muster up some hope for revival since he looked solid in the little bit of LT he played. I’m willing to give him another chance. It’s not ideal that he looked bad on this rep, but it’s one rep, but it’s foolish to not look at the entire picture of last season. Guy is so athletic. I hope he can put it all together. I don’t normally participate in the eating/drinking/listening comment because normally I’m drinking water and don’t know what I’m having for dinner yet. Feel like I need to explain myself. Not listening to anything right now either. I must be fun at parties
Eh, parties are overrated. You do you John S!
Agreed. Thanks brother
Asada and pastor tacos w/brown rice, unsweetened iced tea, and key lime pie. Don’t yet know family film, it may be Sneakers, or Logan’s Run.
Brod77 needs to get it back with his teammate(s). He has established a pattern. He can/must demonstrate improvement and begin stacking days today. And one rep isn’t world-ending in camp. Mental errors are bad, these must be culled out, and quickly.
How did he perform in his remaining reps, yesterday? How did Brod perform today? The pads will be popping next Tue, yes?
Logan’s run becomes today’s winner.
Just listened to Halicke and Kovacevic talk about Brod77, and learned nothing new about Brod in today’s practice, other than what is otherwise common knowledge in this community. Disappointing. Need pads on, will wait, impatiently.
Kalmata & Tomato Focaccia Bread with Dogfish Head Grateful Dead Juicy Pale ale to wash it down.
Listening to Greensky Bluegrass and similar artists on Pandora
Not freaking out over a bad play first day of training camp. Will freak out if it continues during the season and any QBs suffer for it.
Yea, Dogfish Head!
Not a big IPA guy (I prefer Belgian Style Ales), but I lived in MD for 45 years, and I drank the shit outta that 60 Minute IPA.
I’m now a Smithwicks devotee, after visiting Dublin. Jameson and Guiness were impressive. Lived in DE 15 years, hence Dogfish Head.
Eating pasta bake with meat balls, and what many might call “too much cheese” – whatever. I don’t do it often, but I do it right when I do!
No music right now because Im sitting on the couch with my 90lb lapdog watching animal planet – he loves it. Drinking strawberry something or other seltzer that’s gonna be Dundalk Calling IPA in a couple hours. Wink, wink.
Every player is different. For me with Jones it was last year when he showed up to camp fat, and couldn’t beat out Dan Moore, or Fautanu.
Vets? I don’t worry till I see them take a few actual “ones” reps in preseason, and even then I’m not really worried until the first game shows the same problems.
High drafted rookies? Mid season.
Day three rookies and UDFA’S? Year two preseason.
I wasn’t aware there was such a thing as “to much cheese”
You are absolutely correct to be puzzled by that remark — as an I! 🤔😂
To be clear I don’t think it was too much cheese….
Haha! Some people just don’t like fun.
Sorry fellas, these days I can have too much cheese. Wasn’t always that way… sad.
Bison burgers w/ fries and some Mexican lime lager. Listening to the Christian Kuntz podcast w/ Duck Hodges.
I’m with JoeBwan.. Every player is different, but I go by the rule of three.
For rookies, if after three years they haven’t improved or are making the same mistakes, there’s really not much else you can do.
For vets, if after three regular season games they haven’t improved or are making the same mistakes, they may need to ride the pine.
