Steelers Burning Question: Who will be the offensive leaders?
Last season I did the Friday Night Steelers Six Pack and wondered if it was worth doing further. After all, interaction was not great, and sometimes you just have to adjust. So I decided to call an audible, and not just abandon the Friday night meeting of the black-and-gold minds.
Instead of six questions, I wanted to focus solely on one question.
We’ll still do the preamble of what you’re eating/drinking/listening to, but we’ll focus our attention on the one Steelers question of the week. Don’t worry, most weeks I’ll do a bonus/extra credit question for fun. With all that out of the way, let’s get to the question!
The Steelers defense is riddled with leaders like Cam Heyward, Minkah Fitzpatrick and T.J. Watt. But what about the offense? Who will be the leaders on that side of the football?
We talked about this on the Steelers Preview podcast last night, and you can hear that at the bottom of the article, so I thought I’d throw out this question this week.
This is a really difficult question for me to answer considering at the time of me writing this we don’t have any clue who the quarterback will be on the team’s roster. But I’m not talking about who will be the “captain” of the offense, but who will be the leader? Who will be the one to rally the troops? Those players aren’t always given the ‘C’ on their jersey.
I think Broderick Jones has the want-to to be a leader, but he has to provide the game to back it up. No one wants to follow a player who is struggling to do his own job.
Pat Freiermuth is another player who could step up in a leadership role, but Freiermuth will also have to step up in key moments to solidify his voice on the team.
Maybe someone like Zach Frazier will be the next leader, but he seems so quiet his leadership style would be more “do as I do” and not “do as I say”. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it certainly does lend itself to a different type of leadership.
A dark horse candidate, in my opinion, is Jaylen Warren. He has the experience, play style, and the work ethic to absolutely be a leader on the team.
What say you?
As for what I’m eating, it’s grilled steak kabobs with grilled vegetables and salad. As for drink, it’s always store bought kombucha, as usual, and the tunes will be our some Sturgill Simpson on vinyl!
Happy Friday everyone!!
Drinking peach seltzer at the moment, but I’ll be switching it to one or three IPA’s from my Sierra Nevada Torpedo mix pack. What can I say, they’re on sale at the beer store, and Joe like a deal!
Eating talapia in leftover orange chicken sauce, with steamed cauliflower. Very good.
Listening to the Beatles chanel on Pandora. Love me some Fab Four!
I’d love to see the offensive leader be Mason Rudolph, and if his highness decides to withhold the gift of himself from we Steelers fans it will need to be Mason. I think he can do it. I’d also like to see Zack Frazier be another leader. I do expect DK to have his fingerprints on the identity of this offense too, and I like that thought. However the question is whom do I think will lead this offense, and eventhough he’s not a Steeler yet I think it’s Rodgers. In his vacuum I think it will be DK, and Freiermuth, but I’m hoping for Mason to grab the reigns!
I agree with this vision, JoeB. Cavatappi w/chicken in garlic cream sauce and salad. No beverage or music, I’m mourning for Tony Reali.
Indian from the truck stop! Coffee and dessert on the porch .
Seumalu has been a huge favorite of mine since he got here, plays hard and works well with others. I think he led the team in getting confused looks from some of the younger guys on the line who got caught out of position last year.
How’s Metcalf for that room?
There’s a pachyderm on the patio who has enough ambition to fill the role of offensive leader. He’s coming with his own circus. That might be a tough sell, leadership-wise.
