Steelers Burning Question: Who won the Steelers/Dolphins trade on paper?

Last season I did the Friday Night Steelers Six Pack and wondered if it was worth doing further. After all, interaction was not great, and sometimes you just have to adjust. So I decided to call an audible, and not just abandon the Friday night meeting of the black-and-gold minds.

Instead of six questions, I wanted to focus solely on one question.

We’ll still do the preamble of what you’re eating/drinking/listening to, but we’ll focus our attention on the one Steelers question of the week. Don’t worry, most weeks I’ll do a bonus/extra credit question for fun. With all that out of the way, let’s get to the question!

I know this is usually a Friday article, but with the 4th of July holiday, and my son’s end-of-season baseball banquet, I wasn’t able to get the article done in time.

So, what do you do? You do the article on Saturday!

As for the question this week, it is simple: Who do you think won the Steelers vs. Dolphins trade on paper?

To recap:

Steelers Get:

Jalen Ramsey, Jonnu Smith, 2027 7th Round pick

Dolphins Get:

Minkah Fitzpatrick, 2027 5th Round pick

For me, it is difficult to say the Steelers don’t win this trade on paper. I expect Minkah to have a bounce back season in Miami, but I also think the combination of Ramsey and Smith’s versatility will trump the bounce back of Fitzpatrick.

The draft picks are just a swap, and in 2027. Omar Khan was able to keep his 2026 NFL Draft assets.

Yes, I think the Steelers won this trade…on paper.

What say you?

As for what I’m eating, we are headed to my father-in-law’s for a cookout. As for drink, it’s going to be homemade kombucha and the the music will be whatever is on the radio!

Happy Saturday everyone!!

Back at you, Jeff.

I was 10 years old and nuts for a Pirate team that had done nothing since the ’20s. I was listening to the radio in the back seat of my old man’s car on our way home from Ross Twp. when I heard the news. The Pirates traded Frank Thomas! What the @!?? I wasn’t bawling, I was pissed.

I knew Smokey Burgess as a guy who could be thrown out at first on a line drive to the outfield. The other guys, Harvey Haddix and Don Hoak, who were they?

A couple of years later, I’m sitting with the guys watching game 7 in the Kerr Jr High gym.

I don’t know what I don’t know. Could be, though…

Junebug, is it true Burgess caught games while sitting on a stool–or was my dad pulling my leg?

Since I’m chilling with friends, it’s still 4th of July for me. I’m drinking a nice white wine, and eating awesome pizza from one of the best Italian joints in O.C. MD.

We’ve got Pandora on shuffle on a speaker, and The Allman Brothers are currently lamenting being tied to a whipping post, while Bob Ross is Bob Rossing on the TV. These are the types of moments where I like to pause and appreciate what’s happening. White wine, top notch pizza, the Allman Brothers, AND Bob Ross? It’s sensory overload. As Joe Walsh said, “Life’s been good to me so far…”.

Soooo, who won this trade? I think this is good for both sides, but I’m going with the Steelers. Because while they probably weakened their D a little, they improved their O more. If they’re smart, and deploy Ramsey in the many ways they could, they might even have improved the D with this move – I’ll believe that when I see it, but it could happen.

Seeing is believing. Trust but verify. Rubber meets road… and so on…

We’re having barbecued pork ribs, mac and cheese, and white cole slaw, followed by Boston coolers. Drinks will be state-fair lemonade and unsweetened iced tea. Family film will be Bullitt w/ Steve McQueen.

From my POV, both teams tie in this transaction, today, on paper. Miami gains ca. $10MM in cap space and McDaniel loses a headache (Ramsey). Pgh has the opportunity to gain defensive flexibility and a needed TE (although it’d been nicer if Jonnu could also block–though Parham didn’t block well, either), and lost quality at S. And yes, what JSegursky said the other day is also true, if Pgh coaching didn’t intend for Minkah to freelance, then there was little reason to keep him. Don’t know if it’s not worth looking into Blackmon as insurance for Thornhill at S. Khan may have done so, already.

Jonnu (and Baldinger) thinks Pgh won the trade, so there’s that. Jonnu has some say, at minimum, as does Ramsey.
