Steelers cut ties with recently signed offensive guard

Life can come at you fast in the NFL, and Lecitus Smith knows this better than most.

Just a few short weeks ago Smith was released from the New England Patriots, placing him on the waiver wire. There, he was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers but the celebration was brief as the team has reportedly parted ways with Smith.

The Pittsburgh Steelers waived Smith on Tuesday, according to the NFL transactions report for Tuesday.

Smith was a 6th Round draft pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals out of Virginia Tech, and he has had quite the journeyman career since entering the NFL.

After failing to make the Cardinals 53-man roster his rookie season, Smith also was signed by the Houston Texans for six days, the Philadelphia Eagles on a Reserve/Future contract, the Green Bay Packers practice squad in 2024, and finished last season with the Patriots after he was signed off the Green Bay practice squad.

It was thought Smith would be a valuable depth asset on the roster in 2025, but that doesn’t seem to be the case moving forward. When you look at Smith’s transient history in the NFL, you have to wonder if there aren’t some underlying issues which have kept Smith from sticking with any one franchise since he entered the league back in 2022.

The Steelers now will continue their search to formulate the best 90-man offseason roster they can before the team goes to Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA for their training camp. In the meantime, be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers.

a true Pittsburgh Steelers fan, since the 70’s I’m not a fan on signing other teams free agents and the N.F.L. preseason is too short and it shuold be at least four games also the N.F.L. shuold use the U.F.L. to send players who didn’t get a chance to prove themself after getting cut

C’mon FAs are free from other teams. Okay, thatz a bad joke. NFL(PA) may yet regret shrinking the preseason starting for ernest in 2011.

I’m pretty sure they were at 90 with Smith.

Correct, and Weischof provides an international +1 exception, Steelers may retain 91. Pgh should be at 89 now, steelers.com needs a red-eye.

Maybe AARon takes two slots? Bad joke #2, for today.
