Steelers make several roster moves heading into final week of training camp

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Saturday night at Acrisure Stadium in Week 2 of the NFL Preseason, and is is a great time for the team to get into the rhythm of a typical week after a game. In doing so, they need to ensure they have a full roster to participate in the game Saturday night, as well as the joint practice scheduled to take place Thursday in Pittsburgh.

The team announced Monday before Monday’s training camp practice they have released two players and signed two players ahead of the upcoming contest.

Players added:

  • TE Kevin Foelsch
  • DB Mikey Victor

Players released:

  • TE D.J. Thomas-Jones (waived)
  • Cameron McCutcheon (waived/injured)

This from the Steelers official Twitter/X account:

The Steelers only have two public training camp practices remaining before they break camp and head back to Pittsburgh for the duration of the 2025 season. The schedule this week are practices Monday and Tuesday (open to the public) and a closed practice Wednesday before they jettison back to Pittsburgh.

For more information on the newly signed players, here is some information about them from the Steelers Official Website:

Foelsch has spent time with the Carolina Panthers, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and most recently the Kansas City Chiefs, but has yet to see action in an NFL game. He was with the Steelers earlier in training camp.

He played college football at Division II New Haven, where he had 16 touchdown receptions.

Victor was originally signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft.

Victor began his college career at Ventura College and UNLV, before spending his final two seasons at Alabama State. He finished with 55 tackles, 21 passes defensed and three interceptions in two seasons at Alabama State.

Wow, what happened with Thomas-Jones? He was hurt, recovered to a degree, now waived? Probably no specifics released to look into.
