Steelers place guard Isaac Seumalo on the Non-Football Injury List to start camp

The Pittsburgh Steelers reported to training camp Wednesday, July 23rd, and the only thing which took place on Wednesday, outside of moving into the Saint Vincent dorms, was the team’s annual conditioning test.

This is the same workout which saw Russell Wilson injured a year ago, and had him miss the first half of the 2024 season. While Mike Tomlin didn’t suggest a player suffered an injury similar to Wilson’s, he did announce a veteran who won’t be practicing to start training camp.

That veteran would be guard Isaac Seumalo, who will start training camp on the Non-Football Injury List (NFI).

This per Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

The NFI List means Seumalo likely came into camp dealing with a nagging injury which allows him to heal to start camp. The specific injury wasn’t stated, but Seumalo was a player who has dealt with injuries in the past. Last season it was Seumalo who missed the first four games of the regular season with a pectoral strain, and he never truly regained his form upon his return.

How long will Seumalo be out has yet to be determined, but since Tomlin labeled it as a soft tissue injury could be a short stint on the NFI, or a much longer recovery. It is tough to tell without more information on the injury.

Other than Seumalo, Tomlin met with media and said everyone on the roster was present and active, noting Seumalo was the only player dealing with any sort of ailment heading into training camp. The first official practice, which will be non-padded, will be tomorrow, Thursday. be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for real football to start.

Spenser Anderson’s up, and MBow wouldn’t have been a lock to be a better sub, if the draft went that way instead of Sawyer. Heal quickly and thoroughly, Isaac.

Last year of his deal. Worst case scenario is we don’t resign him and get younger at the position.
