Steelers remove guard Isaac Seumalo from the Non-Football Injury List
The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off their first, and only, padded practice Wednesday, and it seemed as good a time as any to get a veteran offensive lineman back on the practice field in some capacity. Thursday, prior to the early 10am practice, the Steelers announced guard Isaac Seumalo will be removed from the Non-Football Injury (NFI) List.

Seumalo was placed on the NFI List when he reported to training camp with what was labeled as a “soft tissue” injury. Throughout the first week of camp, head coach Mike Tomlin said Seumalo’s injury wasn’t serious, but more day-to-day. This would all equate in the decision to get Seumalo back on the practice field before the team’s Thursday practice.
Thursday’s practice is non-padded as the team prepares for Friday Night Lights this week, which is typically the most physical practice of the entire preseason/training camp. Seumalo will be able to be acclimated into the lineup without having a potential setback. As you can expect, the Steelers will take it easy on the veteran guard as he returns to the lineup.
But Seumalo’s return couldn’t come at a better time with the Steelers offensive line dealing with injuries, especially on the left side. Left tackle Broderick Jones has been limited with a groin injury, and Seumalo’s absence has forced the team to have Calvin Anderson/Dylan Cook and Spencer Anderson trying to anchor the left side of the line. That has gone as you might expect, and getting Seumalo and Jones some repetitions together, even if in a non-padded situation, will go a long way to finding some continuity along the offensive front.

Didn’t want to do the run test.
Veteran move. Scared me, though.
