The Great Wall Of Pittsburgh

When Omar Khan and Andy Weidl took over the Steelers front office, they talked about getting back to physical football, building through the trenches, and adding versatility across the roster. So far, they’ve delivered, and it feels like they’re just getting started.

This offseason, they didn’t chase headlines. They went back to what wins in December and January, building a tough, physical offensive line. While most people are focused on the Steelers’ quarterback situation, those really paying attention can see something else taking shape, an offensive line that might quietly become one of the most balanced and physical units in the league.

And honestly, it doesn’t take a wild imagination for that to happen. This isn’t far-fetched. But if it all clicks, it could be huge.

A Healthy Seumalo

Isaac Seumalo played through injuries last year and was up and down. But when he’s right, he’s one of the most technically sound and dependable guards in the game. If he is healthy and returns to form, Pittsburgh gets a Pro Bowl-level player on the inside. Seumalo is the kind of guy who doesn’t just play well, he makes everyone around him better. A healthy Seumalo raises the floor of the whole unit.

Zach Frazier and Mason McCormick: Year Two Jumps?

Zach Frazier wasn’t just solid last year, he was one of the top five centers in the NFL as a rookie. He battled in the AFC North and held his ground every week. With more experience and comfort, he’s ready to take full control as the tone-setter in the middle and leader of the unit. His wrestling background, toughness, and smarts are all there. He could be the next great name in a long list of legendary centers who have worn the Black and Gold.

Right next to him, Mason McCormick might end up being one of the biggest steals from last year’s draft. He was a fourth round pick who got thrown into the mix because of injuries and held his own. He’s strong, nasty, and still growing. If he keeps developing in the run game and stays consistent in pass protection, that duo could lock down the interior for the next 10 years.

The Wild Cards: Jones and Fautanu

Broderick Jones will be moving to left tackle and the Steelers don’t need him to be an All-Pro right now. They just need him to be solid, reliable, and a physical presence who holds his own. The tools are there and the upside is obvious. But if he locks in and plays consistent football in 2025, that’s a big win. Dan Moore held that spot down for years and got PAID in free agency. Jones doesn’t need to be elite, just better than what we had. In this offense, and with the surrounding cast playing to their potential, that can be more than enough.

Troy Fautanu is the big question mark in the best way. He only saw limited action before his rookie season ended early with an injury, but the flashes were there. His quickness, power, and versatility all stood out. He looks like he belongs. If he develops the way Frazier did last year, the Steelers might have found another long-term starter on a rookie deal. That’s how you build something special.

Trust the Vision

Khan and Weidl haven’t thrown a ton of money at flashy skill guys, outside of trading for DK Metcalf, which was a huge move. They’re not handing out massive deals to aging names either. They have been able to acquire solid players on good deals. DeShon Elliott is a great example. A good player who may not be a household name or a superstar, but he belongs in the NFL and is able to contribute to the Steelers’ success. Elliott ended up playing better than expected and was rewarded with a team friendly two-year extension. A few offensive and defensive line signings have solidified depth. Moves like that matter when building a complete roster. But again, it all starts with the big men in the middle.

This rebuild on the offensive line isn’t just about plugging holes, it’s about identity. And the best part is, it looks like it’s working.

While so many argue about quarterbacks and fantasy stats, I’m looking beyond the headlines at what is being built in Pittsburgh.

A wall. A foundation. A process. And I’m still trusting it.
