There comes a time when you just don’t care anymore

Just the other day I found myself thinking about the upcoming Steelers season, and I felt myself with a loss. I was trying to think about content I typically produce this time of year, schedule breakdowns and stuff like that, and I was dumbfounded. How am I supposed to give the breakdown of any game for the Steelers schedule, let alone a prediction, without knowing who the quarterback will be?

The more I thought about it, the more I felt as if I had no real feelings about the upcoming season.

No gleaming optimism.

No stunning pessimism.

Just sort of numb.

While the entire offseason has been different, for many reasons, the chaos at the quarterback position absolutely is one narrative which I have grown exhausted with the topic. Friday this video of Rodgers at some sort of question-and-answer session was asked about if he’ll ever play for Chicago. His answer was he might be playing for a team who plays in Chicago this season.

Check it out below:

This video got around social media with speed and haste, and while some got excited…I found myself numb to the speculation.

To be completely honest, I just don’t care anymore.

Don’t get the message mixed here. I’m not saying I don’t care about the Steelers, I’m saying I don’t care about the Steelers quarterback drama anymore.

If Aaron Rodgers chooses to sign with the team, great! Let’s move forward with the future Hall of Fame quarterback at the helm.

If Rodgers chooses not to sign, or the Steelers pull the offer off the table, and Mason Rudolph is the quarterback, great! Let’s move forward with Rudolph at the helm.

I understand there is a difference in the “ceiling” of the 2025 Steelers if Rodgers is the quarterback compared to Rudolph, and I know veterans on this team have to be hoping for Rodgers to eventually sign with the Steelers. But at this point I just don’t care anymore about the incessant drama which never seems to end.

And I’m sure I’m not alone when it comes to this thought process.

The constant question of will he sign, or won’t he sign? The constant rumors swirling and media spots on shows like Pat McAfee and Joe Rogan. And all this time the Steelers just wait with open arms.

I want to reiterate, I’m fine with whatever the Steelers decide to do. I’m fine with Rodgers being the quarterback. I’m fine with Mason Rudolph at the helm. I’m even fine if they want to turn the reigns over to rookie Will Howard at some point. The key is for the speculation, drama and rumors to end once and for all.

In the meantime, this has made the 2025 season with a sour taste in my mouth to start. In fact, if you throw in how everyone is focused on 2026 and that specific NFL Draft, and I don’t blame any fan who finds themselves looking at 2025 as nothing more than a bridge year.

The good news is this is all can change, and it will start with this drama ending. Until then, I really don’t care anymore.

As of today Jeff, the starting QB is Mason Rudolph. You can only wrote articles for the roster that they have.

My optimism and excitement for 25 had a giant bucket of ice cold water tossed on it when they traded Pickens. I just feel like we’re gonna relive every “The Steelers are a great spot for insert WR name here” article written in 24 but with a slightly lesser QB – I can’t do it. Although, one of those articles would be a nice break from the sea of”Whats Aaron doing today” articles. This $#@%^$& guy. “I have personal things going on…” whatever. Who doesn’t? I notice these “personal issues” aren’t keeping him from doing three hour podcasts and YouTube videos, and whatever this latest thing was. GFY Aaron.

JoeB, reasonably put all told, and I’m still a slower typist than you.

The good news is that, if ’25 is a rerun of 1988 w.r.t. how folks feel about the Steelers before the season starts, well, we came through to the other side. To paraphrase LeBron, “It’s just football”. Whomever Pgh’s QB1 will be, he’ll be a professional dedicated to playing near-perfect ball regardless of external pressure. Is this not so?

This too shall pass.

Just saw an article discussing the possibility of Will Howard running the “Brotherly Shove” play this season. TLDR, I smelled something tricksy with that one.
