More details emerge of Steelers new throwback uniform and helmet
It has been known for quite some time now, dating back to the 2025 NFL schedule release, the Pittsburgh Steelers were going to be getting a new throwback uniform and helmet design in 2025. The team will wear these uniforms on Sunday Night Football vs. the Green Bay Packers.
Art Rooney II had this to say about the throwbacks:
“We are going to have a new throwback uniform this year, and with a new helmet to go with it,” said Rooney. “We’re planning to wear our new throwbacks for the Packers game on Sunday night, Oct. 26. It’ll be fun to wear our throwbacks against one of the older franchises in the league – that just seems to be appropriate. We’ll be doing our color rush uniforms late in the year. I think we’re going to do it for the Monday night game on Dec. 15 against the Miami Dolphins.”
So, a new throwback and helmet design are on deck, but we haven’t heard any new details, that is until Andrew Lind of SportsLogos.net released the following information:
“On July 21, the Pittsburgh Steelers will unveil new yellow throwback helmets and matching uniforms, which our sources have now indicated will not be their current Color Rush design, but rather more closely resemble the throwback uniforms they wore from 2007 to 2011, as the striping pattern on the sleeves differs slightly.”
The throwbacks Lind is citing in the above quote are the ones the team is wearing in the image accompanying the article. If they aren’t going to wear the same exact throwback uniforms, what are some options? I dove into that topic shortly after the schedule was released, and you can read that article HERE.
The team has options, and if they were to honor a previous team who had yellow helmets, the options are certainly limited. They could go back to 1933 and the city crest uniforms, the all white uniforms with yellow shoulders, or the famous “batman” uniforms which are all black and a gold triangle which goes from shoulder to shoulder, and sternum to back. However, the “batman” uniforms were worn with a black helmet.
What would you like to see the Steelers wear for a throwback uniform this year? Let us know in the comment section, and be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare training camp on July 23rd.
If you are going to call them throwbacks, they should be an actual uniform that was worn. I can see not making them long-sleeved, but they should be at least 95% accurate. Or call them an Alternate Uniform.
Alternate, yes.
Oof that year font in that graphic is ROUGH.
I vote for the original 1933 Jersey. We wore them for a game back in the 90’s for (I think) the NFL’s 75th anniversary. Here is a clip of us wearing them. It is potato quality:

Bonus points in the 2nd clip for showing Harbaugh crying.
Thanks for the double approval. Had to edit to spell Kev’s name right!
18 Sep 1994, Harbaugh sacked four times, cried once, very nice. Good clip. RIP, Kevin Greene.
JoeB also votes for city seal like Trukk, I vote for Batman.
Damn right Matt! I love those rugby unis, but they need a leather colored helmet.
They’re going boring on helmets, your idea was far better. Unique.
Yeah the “logo side” helmet is to be worn with the uni in the picture thogh.
I’ll design them a sweet alternate all they gotta do is call.
Haha…that would be awesome.
The Batman is my #2 vote.
I appreciate that, first games I saw on TV, Pgh wore the Batman. My new second choice will be city crest.
